How I clear your gutters
I clear gutters by hand from a ladder, footed safely and moved along as I go rather than dragged across your brickwork. I lift out the leaves, moss and silty gunk that builds up in the bottom of the run, bag it up and take it with me, and check the downpipes are running clear before I'm done. You get gutters that actually drain, and a tidy job left behind — nothing tipped down onto your path or flower beds.
Because I'm up there looking closely, I also spot the things you can't see from the ground: a bracket that's worked loose, a joint that's started to drip, moss pushing a run out of line. If I see something I'll tell you and show you — no pressure to have me sort it, just so you know before it turns into water running down the wall.
Why Bristol gutters fill up faster than you'd think
Bristol's wet, mild climate is hard on gutters. The rain washes grit and roof debris down into the run, and the damp feeds moss that spreads and holds water. On the terraced streets round here, wherever mature trees hang over the road, a gutter can go from clear to blocked in a single autumn.
Once it's blocked, the water has to go somewhere. It spills over the front edge, runs down the render and pointing, and on the older period houses that's exactly where you don't want water sitting. Clearing them once a year keeps ahead of it. Under heavy tree cover, twice a year is the safer bet.
A careful job on older houses
A lot of Bristol's housing is Georgian and Victorian, with period brickwork and pointing I'm not going to lean a ladder against carelessly. I foot the ladder properly, spread the load, and take my time on the older frontages. I'm fully insured too, with public liability cover, so on the rare chance anything ever did go wrong you're covered — no awkward conversation about it.
You'll get a text the night before so you know I'm coming and roughly when, and as long as I can get to the back — through a side gate, say — you don't need to be in. Payment's simple: cash on the day or an easy direct debit — no contract, stop whenever you like.
Book a gutter clear
If your gutters are overflowing, sprouting grass, or just due their yearly clear, drop me a line and I'll get you booked in. Text or call me, Darren, on +44 7931 813332 with your street and rough house type and I'll give you a straight price before I start — no surprises added on afterwards.
FAQs
Gutter Cleaning Service in Bristol — your questions answered
- It depends on the size of the house and how many storeys, but I always give you a straight price before I start, no surprises. Text me your street and a rough idea of the property on +44 7931 813332 and I'll tell you.
- For most Bristol homes once a year is enough, but if your street's under trees, twice a year keeps them clear. With our wet climate and the moss it feeds, leaving it longer usually means an overflow by winter.
- Yes — I clear gutters by hand from a ladder, footed safely and moved along as I go rather than dragged across your wall. I take real care around older brickwork and pointing, and I'm fully insured. Doing it by hand also means I can see exactly what comes out and check the downpipes are running clear before I leave.
- Not usually. As long as I can reach the back of the property, through a side gate for example, you can leave me to it. I text the night before so you always know I'm coming.
- Often yes, but it comes down to safe access for the ladder — some of the taller returns on the period houses around Clifton and Cotham need the right footing to do properly. Tell me your street and the height when you get in touch and I'll be straight with you about whether I can reach it safely.
- Yes. If I spot a cracked bracket, a sagging run or a split downpipe while I'm up there I'll let you know and show you. There's no pressure to have me sort it.
- Cash on the day or an easy direct debit — whichever suits you. There's no contract and you can stop any time; regulars just find it means one less thing to remember.
- Yes. I take real care around period fascia, render and pointing, and I foot the ladder properly so nothing gets damaged. Call me on +44 7931 813332 if you want to talk it through.
- Light Bristol rain is fine, I work through it. If it's genuinely too heavy or windy to be up a ladder safely I'll text and rebook you, which is why I message the night before.
- I'm based in Stockwood, so the south of the city — Knowle, Brislington and out to Keynsham — is my home patch, and I cover the rest of Bristol too. Just call or text and I'll let you know when I'm next nearby.
